Twenty-Five years ago on April 7 in the country of Rwanda the genocide of the Tutsi escalated to a level not seen before. In a terrifying 100 days, over one million Tutsi were killed solely based on the fact they were classified as Tutsi. Irrational hate ravaged a country and left it broken.
At that point, they had a choice….
Return the hatred and wipe out the source of the malicious destruction or to forgive and forge a difficult path to healing.
They chose healing.
This small African country, which would only need 1/7th of Nebraska to match its land mass, showed more strength and courage than most fierce warriors do in the heat of battle by choosing peace and unity over hatred and revenge.
My growing relationship with Rwanda and its people has given me renewed belief in the power of forgiveness to heal all wounds. Thank you, Rwanda, for showing the world an amazing example of how it’s done.
